Sure, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are and will be the Super Bowl 52 betting odds favorite when they take to the gridiron at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Sunday, February 4, but the big question that NFL bettors need an answer for is whether Nick Foles and the Philadelphia Eagles are a better pick as a value-packed underdog?

Without revealing my Super Bowl selection just yet, let’s take a look at the possible answer to that question.

Fly Eagles Fly

Nick Foles and the Philadelphia Eagles (12-6 ATS) have already pulled off a pair of upsets in both, the divisional round and NFC Championship, by, not only covering the chalk as home underdogs but clearly, by winning outright.

After getting past Atlanta 15-10 in a defensive battle in the divisional round as 3-point underdogs in their playoff opener, the Birds ‘opened up a can of whup-ass on Minnesota in their stunning 38-7 NFC Championship blowout victory this past weekend to cover the chalk as 3-point home dogs.

Now, the Eagles have gone a bankroll-boosting 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS win, 9-3 ATS in their last dozen games against a team with a winning record and an encouraging 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games overall. Sure, the Birds are also just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win, but why be a nitpick when they’re clearly riding high right now?

Do Your Job

On the flip side of the coin, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots (12-6 ATS) put a 35-14 beatdown on Tennessee in the divisional round to cash in as a 13.5-point home favorite before failing to cover the spread as a 7.5-point home fave in their mostly hard-fought 24-20 AFC Championship game win over the feisty Jacksonville Jaguars this past weekend.

The Patriots have also put together a bunch of stupendous ATS trends by going 4-1 ATS in their last 5 playoff games, 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games against a team with a winning record and an insane 36-16-2 ATS in their last 54 games overall (my goodness).

As usual, the Patriots come in as the Super Bowl 52 Betting Odds favorite.

I guess you should know that the underdog is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings between the Eagles and Patriots, including Philly’s cover as a touchdown underdog in Super Bowl 39 back in 2005.

The underdog has covered the spread in four of the last six Super Bowls, even though the favored Patriots cashed in as a 3-point favorite against Atlanta last year. New England is just 2-4 ATS in their six Super Bowl appearances, although both of their ATS wins have come in their last two Super Bowl outings, including once, as a Pick ‘Em in their Super Bowl 49 matchup against Seattle.

Expert Final Analysis & Prediction

In closing, I’m just going to say that, while the Patriots are the best problem-solving team in all of football and have been since Tom Brady and Bill Belichick became joined at the hip back in 2001, which is why they come in as the Super Bowl 52 betting odds favorite, I’m thinking the spread of Super Bowl 52 should be a lot closer to a field goal than a touchdown!
