It’s the penultimate Monday night game of the season when Atlanta visits NFC South rival Tampa Bay. The Falcons know that if they win out, they will repeat as NFC South champions. But one loss could keep the Falcons out of the playoffs altogether. The Falcons are solid NFL betting favorites over Tampa Bay. Let’s see if it will be enough to cover the NFL spread.

Last Meeting

Atlanta was a 10.5-point favorite in Week 12 and beat Tampa Bay 34-20. Tampa Bay rallied from 21 points down to get to 27-20, and had the football inside Atlanta’s red zone before a failed fourth-down attempt. The Falcons took the ensuing possession back in the other direction for a final touchdown and a slightly misleading 34-20 final. The main reason the Buccaneers did not get that win in Atlanta was wide receiver Julio Jones, who went crazy with 12 receptions for 253 yards and two touchdowns. Jones had just one catch for nine yards on three targets in the first quarter. The Bucs were without starting QB Jameis Winston then.

Why Bet on Atlanta?

The Falcons could win the NFC South, be a wild-card team or miss the playoffs altogether. They got a huge win last Thursday over New Orleans, 20-17. Deion Jones made a leaping interception in the end zone with 1:25 remaining. Matt Ryan shook off three interceptions to guide the Falcons to Matt Bryant’s 52-yard field goal with 3:49 to go, snapping a 17-all tie. Ryan had tied the game with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Mohamed Sanu with 9:55 remaining, finishing 15 of 27 for 221 yards.

Since 2014, the Bucs are just 1-5 in night games. The Bucs are also pretty bad in December. In their past 20 games played in the month of December, the Bucs have gone just 4-16 straight-up. Overall, Tampa is 3-9-1 ATS this season, which is tied for the second worst mark in the NFL. The Falcons are 5-1 in their past six primetime games. Atlanta is 6-3 ATS in divisional games since the beginning of last season, which is one of the best marks in the NFL in the span.

The status of running back Tevin Coleman is still in doubt as he remains in the concussion protocol. He sustained the concussion in last Thursday night’s win over New Orleans. And the Monday night matchup with Tampa Bay gives Coleman a little more time than normal to recover. But every Falcons player who has sustained a concussion this season has missed a least one game. If Coleman is out, that means a heavier workload for Devonta Freeman in his third game back from a concussion.  Coleman’s been a significant asset to Atlanta’s offense this season recording 838 yards of total offense and seven touchdowns.

Adrian Clayborn, the team’s sack leader, missed some practice this week due to a hamstring injury. Sanu, the team leader in TD receptions, has been limited by knee injury. But both should play. In addition, both starting guards are banged up, with Andy Levitre unlikely to play. Ben Garland will continue to fill in at left guard.

Why Bet on Tampa Bay?

The Bucs have dropped three straight but could have won the past two. Tight end O.J. Howard, the Buccaneers’ first-round pick, has picked up his pace in the second half of the season as he continues to learn more about the pro game every week. In his first nine games, Howard caught 14 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns. In Tampa Bay’s last four contests, he has added 11 catches for 175 yards and two more scores. Only eight NFL tight ends have more receiving yards than Howard in the last four weeks, and only three have more touchdowns.

In their last six games, the Falcons have played four teams that either are or recently were among the projected playoff field in the NFC. Now, with a game against the 4-9 Bucs standing between Atlanta and a two-game stretch against the Saints and Panthers, this could be a trap game. Tampa’s roster is still comprised of NFL players who are as talented as any in the league.

Are the Bucs a safe bet in Week 15?

Five-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy left last week’s game because of a right biceps injury and did not return. He also underwent an MRI on Monday, but the team has been mum on his status. The defensive line has accounted for 15 sacks this year, the fewest in the NFL, and five of them have come from McCoy. To make matters worse, their backup Clinton McDonald, has been out because of a back injury. The Falcons are preparing for Robert Ayers to fill McCoy’s position.

In addition to McCoy, the Buccaneers’ most impactful defender this season has been linebacker Lavonte David, who leads the team in tackles and has five forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. David has missed practice this week due to a hamstring injury. But the secondary could be fortified. Safety T.J. Ward, who has been in the NFL’s concussion protocol since suffering the injury in the first 12 game against Atlanta, will play. Cornerback Vernon Hargreaves and safety Josh Robinson are trying to return from hamstring injuries that have kept them out for four and two games,

Expert Prediction & NFL Betting Pick for Week 15

Falcons have all the motivation – they’ll win by at least a touchdown and cover the NFL spread.

The post MNF Week 15 Preview: Falcons at Buccaneers NFL Spread & Game Info appeared first on Mybookie Sportsbook.

Christmas arrived early in the Netherlands — late, actually (the Dutch celebrate on December 5) — with the results of the fourth annual Good Country Index. Former policy advisor Simon Anholt’s in-depth analysis examined each country’s contributions to the world, across broad categories such as ‘Health & Wellbeing,’ ‘World Order’ and ‘Planet & Climate.’ The ratings in each are aggregated and then, voila, countries are ranked in order of goodness.

And according to the Index, no country was more gooder in 2017 than the Netherlands, where there are more bikes than people. Take notes, rest of the world. “Hartelijk gefeliciteerd” on a job well done, Netherlands. Congratulations!

In addition to its No. 2 ranking for ‘Culture’ and No. 4 ranking for ‘Prosperity & Equality,’ the Netherlands landed No. 8 for its global contributions to science and technology. The U.S., by comparison, was No. 38 in this department. Pretty impressive for a country with only half the population of California.

Netherlands’ primary exports — natural gas, machinery, engineering equipment — reflect old-world business and the pre-tech economy. But the country is quickly becoming a force in the business-to-business (B2B) software realm, as exemplified by the Netherlands-based technology platforms beloved by reviewers on G2 Crowd. Digital times can coexist with the industrial side of things, and the Netherlands in 2017 is a shining example of how.

Note: Only software vendors on G2 Crowd with headquarters currently in the Netherlands are included in graph.

A majority of Dutch software vendors are hunkered down in Amsterdam, the capital and most multicultural city in the world. It’s an undeniable hotbed for startups thanks to its quality of life, affordability, beautiful scenery and ultra-progressive policies — visit any of the famous “coffee shops” to get a taste of just how progressive. Unicorns Netflix and Uber established their EU headquarters in Amsterdam, and the city was dubbed the European Capital of Innovation in 2016 by the European Commission. In 2014 alone, 75 different Dutch startups raised venture funding, including $200 million for payment platform Adyen.

That’ll buy a lot of stroopwafel!

Time will tell if the Netherlands becomes cramped and overpriced like the other tech meccas. For now, though, it’s still somehow maintaining its affordability while simultaneously becoming the world’s “high-tech startup capital,” according to TechCrunch. The country’s population has hovered around the 17 million mark for the last decade without oppressive growth. It’s worth noting that 90 percent (and change) of the population live in urban areas, fueling the furnace of innovation that’s been making worldwide headlines and cementing the country’s status as a positive contributor.

The most positive, for that matter, if judging by this past year alone.

To help cap off the country’s “Goodest” year ever and growing distinction in the B2B landscape, we’ve pulled together a list of the top-rated products on G2 Crowd with vendors headquartered in the Netherlands. The list below is ordered by user satisfaction, and to qualify, a product was required to have at least 10 verified user reviews.

For each product, we created a profile to give a snapshot of what it is and what it does, and to give some insight into the company behind it. All the data comes from G2 (and our nearly 300,000 B2B software and services reviews), or from publicly available sources such as LinkedIn and Crunchbase. These 10 Dutch B2B companies are represented by 927 verified reviews from real users across a variety of categories, from Recruitment Marketing to Digital Asset Management to Vector Graphics. Read more below about some of the companies playing a major role in the Netherlands’ bustling tech environment.

The post 10 Best Free Real Estate CRM Tools for Agents appeared first on G2 Crowd.

It’s hip to be free. The gig economy is booming and people of all ages are thinking outside the 9-to-5, filing into cafes and coworking spaces and living life a day at a time. It’s a long-in-the-making paradigm shift from the way humans go to work … a revolt against the morning commute and office politics. Toss in the rising robot workforce and related uncertainties — and who can blame them?

In 2016, freelancers comprised a remarkable 35 percent of the U.S. workforce, and 47 percent of 18-24-year-olds freelanced full-time or part-time. Crazier still: More than half of freelancers who quit a full-time job wound up earning more within a year, while working fewer hours on average.

Maybe not so crazy: 79 percent said freelancing is better than an “old-fashioned” job. It’s possible that a few just want to portray zero regrets — or maybe try to convince themselves they’re on the right path — but it’s safe to assume that many are full-speed ahead down Freelance Lane, grins wide and no looking back.

Perhaps one sacrifice of the freelancing life is less access to the powerful (and supes expensive) software freelancers may have grown accustomed to an enterprise paying for. A healthy corporation can provide a toy box of sorts for developers, writers, editors, translators and marketers — the five primary freelancing professions, according to a 2012 report — to use in their craft. Riding solo forces independent contractors to be a bit more resourceful and maximize their efficiency with fewer applications.

But certain software tools, and not to mention a reliable computer, are necessary investments. One app that mustn’t be spared in a freelancing career is a tool for recording and budgeting labor hours (and for that matter, minutes and seconds). With proper time tracking, freelancers can work with confidence knowing they’ll receive the appropriate credit and compensation for their output. Time tracking software can benefit these individuals in a number of other ways; after getting comfortable with the right one, a freelancer might wonder how they ever lived without it.

The most obvious perk of time tracking is for invoicing employers the correct amount without scrambling to estimate hours after the fact, and potentially being way off. Receiving fair and accurate pay is a no-brainer outcome here. But time tracking freelancers are also a more confident investment for the companies that employ them which is a foundation for repeated business, referrals and a positive reputation among peers.

Austin L. Church, an established independent consultant to both executives and entrepreneurs, puts it well in a blog post featured on his website.

“Have you ever gotten a Comcast bill that seemed way too high? Did it raise your blood pressure? Did you mutter an expletive then pick up the phone to duke out the discrepancies yet again with a customer frustration specialist? Consultants and freelancers itemize our invoices because we do not want to create that kind of experience for our clients. They want to know what they paid for. They may be budgeting for different types of tasks — for example, research, copywriting, SEO — and specificity enables them to evaluate the adequacy of their budgets and planning. Are you billing your time in one amorphous lump like a professional employee? Or are you billing your time in task-specific fifteen-minute increments like a professional freelancer?”

Later in the post, Church discusses another major benefit of successful time tracking: Maximizing billable time. What’s likely thousands upon thousands of freelancers let bits of work fall through the cracks of billability — things like responding to emails, client phone calls, and minor updates or edits to work. Even the smallest work-related tasks are still “on the clock” moments that can add up come payday.

Church estimates that proper time tracking of these admin and project management tasks can increase a freelancer’s net income by 15-25 percent. Even if cash doesn’t rule everything thing around you, it’s still your money to get and there’s no guilt to be had in the process. Time tracking freelancers get the money. Dollar dollar bill, ya’ll.

An unfortunate side effect of the freelancing revolution is those sneaks who take advantage of employers by “padding their numbers” on invoices, giving a bad name to their colleagues in the process. For pure time-based contracts, as opposed to project-based, the “honor system” is in play in most situations. This can naturally result in a lingering suspicion from employers that freelancers might bend the truth to get more money — and their suspicions are occasionally validated by the dishonest delinquents of the freelancing world.

With time tracking freelancers can …

Fortunately, some of the best time tracking apps provide features to address accountability issues related to freelancing and remote work. TSheets, for instance, offers GPS tracking so employers can see where contractors are when they claim to be working.

G2 Crowd welcomes professional users of time tracking products to write reviews on their experiences and how well they served their purpose — in the case of these tools, record time spent on work tasks. The products featured in this article have consistently positive reviews from verified users just like you.

TSheets Time Tracking Freelancers

In their TSheets review from September 2017, Ryan T. wrote: “The GPS tracking feature is great to prove that you’re on site at work, especially for jobs where employee visibility is minimal at times. Other tracking apps are too easily manipulated by the employee to pad hours.

He continued: “There’s many more amazing features (like the expense tracker which can be very useful for freelancers and independent contractors), especially when you creatively use Zapier to connect this app to hundreds of others for modular customization tailored exactly to a freelancer’s or a company’s diverse needs.”

A number of time tracking tools go above and beyond the call of measuring time. Some actually require data from separate time clocks be entered, then leverage this information into deeper insights. The potential benefits of time tracking for freelancers go way deeper than just counting.

Toggl, a time tracking solution that markets directly to freelancers and consultants, boasts features such as visual reports that break down the user’s time exertion based on tasks, pricing suggestions, and monitoring of projects based on timelines and budgets, alerting the user when things are overdue or over budget. It even integrates with 100-plus web applications through extensions so time can be logged from different browsers without opening the Toggl app itself.

Toggl Time Tracking Freelancers

In their 5-star Toggl review from July 2017, Tiffany H. wrote: “Toggl is a really straightforward way to track your time when you are doing freelance work. It was really user-friendly and helped me to see how I could be more efficient with my time as well as how much I should charge for my services. It also helped me track how much time I spend on non-work tasks, such as homeschool. I also like that it allows me to create and track specific client projects, tag my projects so that I can find them more easily, and gain access to helpful reports.”

Another popular tool, RescueTime, promises to “help you understand your daily habits so you can focus and be more productive.” In our wildly distracted world, with umpteen tabs open at all times and smartphones “blowin’ up” incessantly, acknowledging the impact of these distractions can be a huge difference between rockstar freelancers and those just coasting by.

RescueTime Time Tracking Freelancers

In their RescueTime review from February 2017, Jennifer M. wrote: “I like that RescueTime tracks my computer usage throughout my work day. It tells me how long I spent on various websites, how long I spent typing in my Word files, how much time I waste on social media, etc. I also really like that they calculate your productivity score and display your stats in easy-to-read graphs.”

They continued: “I’ve been much more productive since I started using RescueTime. Before tracking my computer activity, I didn’t realize how much time I was wasting throughout the day.”

To recap, with time tracking freelancers can experience the following benefits:
  • Accurate invoicing
  • Building trust with employers
  • Maximizing billable time
  • Promoting accountability
  • Insights into project management
  • Determining optimal and fair pricing
  • Addressing and minimizing distractions
  • Overall productivity

Time is money, whether you’re an ad-hoc jockey or a corporate executive. This makes time tracking apps equally useful by both freelancers and entire businesses, for some similar and some different reasons. We’ve previously discussed the top benefits of time tracking in the traditional workplace. But as the ubiquity of freelancing spreads like wildfire — Forbes estimates half of Americans will be freelancers by 2020 — so will the popularity of these tools among solopreneurs. A laptop and Wi-Fi connection, in pajamas or in the park (or why not both?), is the new workplace. But one thing that will never change is the power of good time management.

December 14, 2017 (StlRealEstate.News) — As rents across the country rise, many working adults are doubling up with roommates or parents in order to cut costs and share living expenses

– Across the country, 30 percent of adults live with either a roommate or parent, up eight percentage points since 2000.

– Los Angeles, Riverside, Calif. and Miami have the greatest share of adults living with a roommate or parent. These metros also have some of the nation’s most expensive rents.

– Americans making the national median income should expect to spend about 30 percent of their monthly income on a rental payment, but in Los Angeles, renters spend almost half.

Nationally, nearly one in three adults live with a roommate or parent, the greatest share ever reportedi, according to a new Zillow® analysisii. As rental affordability deteriorates, more U.S. adults may be choosing double up in order to cut costs.

A doubled-up household is where two or more working-agediii adults live together but aren’t married or in a relationship — this could mean two millennial roommates or an adult living with parents. The share of doubled-up households has been steadily rising since the late 1990s, when just 23 percent of adults lived together.

The rise in doubled-up households coincides with increasingly unaffordable rental prices nationwide. Americans making the national median income should expect to put about 30 percent of their monthly income toward a rental payment, but in some markets the share is even greater. In Los Angeles, renters spend almost half of their monthly income on rent. In San Francisco, renters spend 42 percent of their income on rent each month.

“As rents have outpaced incomes, living alone is no longer an option for many working-aged adults,” said Zillow senior economist Aaron Terrazas. “By sharing a home with roommates — or in some cases, with adult parents — working adults are able to afford to live in more desirable neighborhoods without shouldering the full cost alone. But this phenomenon is not limited to expensive cities. The share of adults living with roommates has been on the rise in historically more affordable rental markets as well. Unless current dynamics shift and income growth exceeds rent growth for a sustained period of time, this trend is unlikely to change.”

Metros with the greatest share of adults doubling up also have some of the most expensive rents. In Los Angeles, almost 50 percent of adults live with a roommate or adult parent, the highest share of all markets analyzed. Los Angeles is the third most expensive rental market in the nationiv, with the median rent at $2,720 per monthv.

Riverside, Calif. and Miami metros also have a high percentage of doubled-up households. In Riverside, almost 45 percent of adults are doubled up, along with 41 percent in Miami. Both metros are among the seven most expensive rental markets when ranked by the share of income going toward the typical rent payment.

When renters decide to move to a new place, a recent rent increase was likely the catalyst, according to the 2017 Zillow Group Consumer Housing Trends Reportvi. Almost 80 percent of renters who moved from a previous rental experienced a rent increase before moving. And when renters start searching for a new place to live, 77 percent indicate that the rental being within their price range is a top requirement.

It’s the most important game in the NFL in the 2017 regular season, in my opinion, on Sunday from Pittsburgh as the top seed in the AFC playoffs is likely on the line when the Steelers host the Patriots in a rematch of last year’s AFC title game and potential preview of this year’s. The Pittsburgh Steelers are a rare home underdogs in the NFL Week 15 spread.

  • Precipitation: 66%

  • Cloud Cover: 99%

Last Meeting

They met twice last year, both Pats wins – but Pittsburgh had a key injury in both. In Week 7 in Pittsburgh, the Pats prevailed 27-16. The Steelers were within 14-13 when LeGarrette Blount broke runs of 11 and 25 yards to set up a 36-yard touchdown from Tom Brady to Rob Gronkowski early in the third quarter. With Ben Roethlisberger missing the game, Pittsburgh scored one touchdown in four trips to the red zone and was flagged 10 times for 85 yards.

In the AFC title game in Foxboro, the Pats rolled 36-17. Brady threw for 384 yards and three touchdowns. Chris Hogan caught nine balls for 180 yards and two scores. Pittsburgh lost star running back Le’Veon Bell late in the first quarter to a groin injury.

Why Bet on New England?

The New England Patriots are going to be angry after playing horribly Monday night in a 27-20 loss in Miami to end the team’s eight-game winning streak. Brady was intercepted twice by Xavien Howard and held without a third-down conversion.  Brady went 24 for 43 for 233 yards and one touchdown. Miami sacked him twice and hit him five times, and held the Patriots to 25 yards rushing. New England was 0 for 11 on third down. The Pats were without Gronkowski as he served a one-game suspension.

The team also signed WR Kenny Britt this week. Britt, who played nine games with the Browns this season, gives the Patriots a much bigger receiving target at 6-foot-3 and 223 pounds. Britt is a bigger target who offers a contrast to the top three players on the Patriots’ wide receiver depth chart: Brandin Cooks (5-foot-10, 189 pounds), Hogan (6-foot-1, 210) and Danny Amendola (5-foot-11, 190).

Since the beginning of the Brady and Bill Belichick era, the Patriots have played the Steelers a total of 12 times, including the playoffs, and gone 10-2 against them. In the past four meetings between these two teams, the Patriots have gone 4-0 straight-up and 3-0-1 ATS.

The Patriots will clinch the AFC East for the ninth consecutive season with a win at Pittsburgh or a Buffalo loss earlier in the day. It would be the 17th division title since Robert Kraft purchased the Patriots in 1994. The Patriots have the most division titles of any team since the 1994 season with 16. New England can lock up a playoff spot with a Baltimore loss.

In his 12 starts against the Steelers, Brady has a 115.1 passer rating with 29 touchdown passes and three interceptions. In his past seven games vs. Pittsburgh, Brady has 22 touchdowns, zero interceptions and six wins.

The Patriots are 7-10 all-time in the regular season in games played in Pittsburgh, but they are 3-2 all-time in the regular season at Heinz Field since it opened in 2001.

Why Bet on Pittsburgh?

Since Big Ben’s rookie year in 2004, the Steelers have only been a home underdog a total of 12 times. Not only are the Steelers 8-3-1 against the spread (ATS), but they also have a strong track record of pulling off the upset, going 8-4 SU. Of the 12 games the Steelers have played as a home dog in the Roethlisberger era, three of them have come against the Patriots. Pittsburgh is 2-1 when they play New England as a home underdog.

The Steelers have clinched the AFC North and have won eight consecutive games, including last week’s 39-38 comeback win against Baltimore. Roethlisberger passed for 506 yards and is the only player in NFL history to have three games with at least 500 passing yards. The Steelers will clinch a first-round bye with a win and Pittsburgh will also secure the AFC’s No. 1 seed with a win combined with a Jacksonville loss.

Are the Steelers a safe bet in Week 15?

Le’Veon Bell leads the NFL in rushing yards (1,105) and scrimmage yards (1,684) while wide receiver Antonio Brown ranks first in receptions (99) and receiving yards (1,509). Brown needs one reception to become the first player in NFL history to have at least 100 receptions in five consecutive seasons.

He has 9,886 receiving yards in his eight-year NFL career. Brown, who will play in his 115th career game on Sunday, can tie Calvin Johnson (115) for the fewest games to reach 10,000 receiving yards in NFL history. Brown also can become the first player in NFL history with at least 1,600 receiving yards and 10 touchdown catches in three different seasons.

The Steelers also get back rookie WR JuJu Smith-Schuster this week. He was suspended for the Ravens game. He’s the team’s second-leading receiver with 585 yards.

Latest NFL Betting Trends

  • New England is 6-1 ATS in the last 7 games
  • New England is 8-1 SU in the last 9 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 7 of New England’s last 9 games
  • Pittsburgh is 1-4 ATS in the last 5 games
  • Pittsburgh is 5-0 SU in the last 5 games
  • The total went OVER in 4 of Pittsburgh’s last 5 games

Switzerland’s startup scene is vibrant, exciting and expansive. The variety of startups that exist in Switzerland is just as staggering as the fact that, despite the country’s high cost of living, it’s not startup barren. For example: On one hand there’s Monetas, a startup that’s rolled out a cryptocurrency platform. And then, on the other hand, there’s FELFEL, which has the mission statement: “Free people from mediocre food at work.” According to Forbes Magazine, the reason for its position as a European startup hub is because Switzerland “has a robust economy, and can attract the investment needed to drive innovation in digital technologies.”

However, where Switzerland excels is in scientific, technological research. Whether the research is in space, physics or earth sciences, the legacy of the place is staggering. (CERN, I’m talking about CERN.) In fact, the Swiss federal government itself supports the Swiss National Science Foundation, a private research funding organization that prides itself on the highest quality of research.

Switzerland ranks second (SECOND!) in The Global Entrepreneurship and Development Institute’s “Global Entrepreneurship Index.” This Index measures 137 countries on the health of their entrepreneurship ecosystems. You know what other countries are in the top five? The U.S. (No. 1), Canada (No. 3), the United Kingdom (No. 4) and Australia (No. 5).

This makes sense, considering that in 2016 Switzerland has, as a direct answer to San Francisco’s Silicon Valley, rolled out a network of technology parks. Each of the parks (there are five in total) are located next to either a university or a research institute, and are meant to serve as incubators for startups. It seems like the whole of Switzerland (even the government and finance sectors) has put serious investment into incubators and accelerator programs. There’s even a Girls Who Code movement in Switzerland called Girls in Tech: Switzerland. Its hashtag is phenomenal: #StartHerSuccess.

Note: Only software vendors on G2 Crowd with headquarters currently in Switzerland are included in graph.

With Switzerland’s effort on technology and entrepreneurship, it’s no wonder why it has emerged as a tech hub. We pulled together a list of the top-rated products on G2 Crowd with parent companies headquartered in Switzerland. The following list is ranked by real user satisfaction. To qualify, a company was required to have a product with at least 10 verified user reviews.

For each qualifying product, we dedicated a profile to give an overview of what it is and what it does, and to recognize that company’s culture and history. All the data included comes from G2 Crowd’s near 300,000 verified user reviews, or from publicly available sources and crowdsourced data such as LinkedIn, Crunchbase and Glassdoor. In all, 27 Switzerland B2B companies are represented across a variety of categories, from Business Intelligence to Content Delivery Network to Reference Management. A few days ago, the country known as the United Kingdom came to a standstill. This glorious nation, home to illustrious inventions such the steam train and passenger railway (this will become relevant later) as well as my beloved crumpets, just completely descended in disbelief and chaos as Zeus dropped a few slushies from the sky.

Yes my dears, it snowed, and in London, it was like hell had frozen over. But it is okay because it was colder than Moscow so it is not that embarrassing. Apparently.

Yeah right.

.Putin Meets With Merkel In Berlin

Was this natural phenomenon (which I understand to be typically expected at that time of the year *duh*) that bad to warrant the utter bollocks and misery I went through?

Are the people who are dreaming of a white Christmas actually talking about white wine? Because I sure as hell don’t understand the amount of misery and element of surprise this seems to have triggered all over.

I leave you to judge for yourself by these pictures I took in Regent’s Park, on the days before and after ‘Ice Ice City‘.

Whilst you peruse these pics, I will grab myself a drink before getting to the second half of the post (the ranty bit).

This fellow seemed happy and was rocking the horns (🤘) #representregents-6

This little dude was hilarious, he kept posing and smizing harder than Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell combined. #werkregents-8

The next pics are too pretty for smutty captions.regents-10

I hope you have enjoyed these pictures of London’s Regents Park under the evil, tortuous snow? 😉

Because heeeeeeere cooooooomes the rant !!

My regular readers may have noticed a lack of general posting (and posing) of my vain self, decked in various gothic and alternative attire?  Reasons?

As I said on my Facebook : if Hell had a rail network, it would be Southern Railway. Don’t even bother about the Highway, AC/DC was telling lies.

This is what I have been faced with every single day for the last 3 months :

Due to Southern Railway’s complete incompetency and inability to run their network, I have had to travel 4 hours + to get to and back from work 4 out out of 5 working days…Why?

Typical Southern Rail excuses : A leaf has made its way onto the tracks [Sept to Nov]; the tracks are wet because it has rained [Nov to June] ; the tracks are too hot [June to Sept];  a ghost train is missing its driver [on loan at the local ghost ride’s funfair] …  All this has been leaving my boss thinking I was cocking up my arrival to work on purpose everyday and making it up. UGH. Southern, Bellend Express.

Talking about bosses and cocks.

Reason Numero (Dil)dos : Hard (As a Rock) Project

These are genuine pictures of my work colleagues over the last 3 months.  To be fair, the project wasn’t hard, everything else was (pun intended) ! Only two days left and I will wave good bye to this project. So I am glad to be finishing up and starting afresh in 2018.

I am genuinely annoyed at not having been able to do my normal posting, so please bear with me until I extricate myself of dildo-land and defrost my frozen spirit!

I am going to be in Paris from this weekend onwards, so pics should be fun as I am going to cover Gothic Paris 😉

Until next time!

Ice, Ice Kisses,

Cloud platform as a service (PaaS) software has made its way into just about every application on the web. These tools can cut development time in half by providing backend infrastructure for core functionality and data storage. That gives developers more time to add features and fine-tune performance.

Backend features typically include things like databases, web servers, operating systems and storage. In addition to the scalable backend, PaaS providers deliver the development tools necessary to build, test and deploy an application.

These are some of the 5 things users said they loved about PaaS solutions:

Top 5 Things Users Love About PaaS

PaaS solutions typically provide scalable storage for growing application providers to match the pace of a user base. Scalable storage in the cloud means you don’t have to limit the amount of data or content an application can handle. Performance won’t slow and data won’t disappear. Plus, you’ll only pay for what you use. Data can come in many formats: SQL, XML or documents. They can often integrate external or third-party data using APIs and plug-ins.

“You’re able to quickly set up a group of servers and storage in seconds, control them, scale them and handle proper keys, all within the same interface. When you’re getting millions of pageviews, and only paying tens of dollars for it, I’d say that’s entirely worth it.” — AWS EC2 review from Jonathan K.

Storage highlight: AWS EC2

AWS EC2 is one of Amazon’s most commonly used software offerings and the top-rated product in our cloud PaaS category. Users said some of their favorite features of AWS EC2 were virtual machines, its programmatic API and control panel.

Product Name: AWS EC2
Categories: Cloud Platform as a Service (PaaS)
Reviews: 129
G2 Crowd Star Rating: 4.3 out of 5 stars

Virtual machines

Virtual machines can completely transform your workspace. These can be anything from development environments to desktop infrastructure. Either way, you can customize your devices to meet your specific needs. Remote users will have access to some of the same features as those on-premises, regardless of the device they’re using.

“[Azure is] fast, all in one place — from virtual machines, networks, disk storages, mobile APIs, databases. Everything [is] one click away to create and run. You can easily choose size of VM, any DB or just deploy pre-configured image of software you need to run.” — Azure review from Tomas V.

Virtual machines highlight: Azure

Azure is the second-most commonly used PaaS solution on G2 Crowd, right behind AWS EC2. Some of the things people like were its Visual Studio integration, high availability and hybrid cloud support. This gives companies a larger variety of virtual machine options and makes it easier to implement them.

Security is one of the biggest concerns of tech companies, and rightfully so. 2017 was the biggest year for hacks and cyber-ransom yet. Companies need to keep their information safe, but it can be difficult to find and staff experienced security professionals.

Big-name vendors like Microsoft and Red Hat give users some peace of mind in terms of security. Though companies should remain vigilant, vendors bear much of burden in securing backend data. Companies would be wise to ensure deployment environments are secure, scan web applications for malicious content and quality test data.

“What I like about OpenShift is the secure RHC client that helps us to control our application in the cloud easily using SSH; the security is primordial in our company.” — OpenShift review from Marouane T.

Security highlight: OpenShift

OpenShift is the top-rated open-source PaaS offering on G2 Crowd and the fifth-highest rated tool in the category overall. People said they like OpenShift because of its scalability, command line tools, and language support.

Application deployment

Whether they’re deployed into a hybrid, private or public cloud, PaaS solutions can get your resources where they need to go. Some tools give you the ability to automate deployments, while others even have services to manage deployments for you.

“The Heroku command line tool chain makes it so easy as a developer to deploy nearly anything within a matter of seconds. [I]t’s second-nature to use Heroku by default when deploying any project, be it of corporate scale or side project.” — Heroku review from a Full Stack Web Engineer

Application deployment highlight: Heroku

Salesforce Platform: Heroku Enterprise is our fourth-highest rated tool in our PaaS category.
The product has 66 reviews, and some of the most commonly cited benefits are Heroku’s language support, command line tool and rails console.

Development tools

Since developers no longer have to spend time creating databases and managing configurations, they can spend more time fine-tuning the application. This means improving user experience, perfecting the app’s appearance and optimizing its performance. Many plug-ins are usually available as well, expanding capabilities to add features like analytics or continuous deployment.

“For us developers who really want to focus on coding and creating apps instead of configuring different set of tools Dokku gives us the power to deliver and show changes to customers faster.” — Dokku review from Federico H.

Development tools highlight: Dokku

Dokku is another open-source solution that’s been described as a lightweight, low-maintenance PaaS solution. It’s ranked ninth overall, but has one of the highest satisfaction scores. Users rate it 4.2 out of 5 stars on average.

G2 Crowd Star Rating: 4.2 out of 5 stars

These features, along with features for analytics, testing and monitoring, can be bolstered through plugins and integrations. All in all, the PaaS solution can help development teams cut spending, save time and scale as they grow.
